Read To Me
Free reading service for persons who are blind or have low vision and is powered by volunteers.  Persons send information to a live reader via a toll free fax at (877) 333-8848 with a mandatory informational cover sheet.  A volunteer calls the person back – usually within the hour – to read the document.  This service is available throughout the US and Canada.

Computers for the Blind
Formerly known as Texas Center for the Visually Challenged
For a small donation of $100 for a desktop or $150 for a laptop, they will send a newly refurbished computer with software allowing blind and visually challenged persons to be able to join family and friends, doing what they are doing.  Each computer comes complete with monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and all associated cables. It also comes with preloaded software. Software includes: Open Office for word processing/book keeping, NVDA screen reader, a demo version of Window-Eyes, and a 60-day demo version of ZoomText. It is shipped right to your door (US or Canada only).
