Presenter Biography

Mark E. Kleinman, M.D.

University of Kentucky

Mark E. Kleinman, M.D., is an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky, specializing in the management of diseases of the vitreous, retina and macula. He completed his medical education and a surgery internship at New York University, where he developed a specific interest in stem/progenitor cell biology and anomalous vascular growth, for which he was awarded a Weston Research Grant. At the University of Kentucky, he completed a post-doctoral research fellowship and followed it with an ophthalmology residency. He has continued his investigations as a physician-scientist with a K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award from the National Eye Institute and a Career Development Award from the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Among Dr. Kleinman’s goals are developing diagnostic bio-imaging tools and designing new therapeutic approaches to vision and life-threatening eye diseases.
