Presenter Biography

Stephen P. Daiger, Ph.D.,

Stephen P. Daiger, Ph.D., is the TS Matney Professor of Environmental and Genetic Sciences in the Human Genetics Center of the School of Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He is a tenured professor in the division of epidemiology as well as an adjunct professor in the department of ophthalmology and visual sciences. Dr. Daiger received his B.A. in experimental psychology from Johns Hopkins University and his Ph.D. in human genetics from Stanford University. His research interests include: identification of genes and mutations causing autosomal dominant and X-linked retinitis pigmentosa; using linkage mapping, high-throughput DNA sequencing, bioinformatics and other laboratory and computational approaches; and follow-up studies on the pathologic mechanisms involved in disease-related genes and disease-causing mutations. As part of his research, Dr. Daiger directs a federally-certified DNA testing laboratory. He is a vice chair of the Foundation Fighting Blindness' Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and also serves as chair of the genetics committee of the SAB.
