Benjamin Bakall, Ph.D.

Medical Retina/Inherited Retinal Disease Fellow
University of Iowa

Benjamin Bakall, Ph.D., is a retina fellow in the department of ophthalmology at the University of Iowa and a recipient of the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ Alan Laties Career Development Award. He completed his medical degree at Uppsala University in Sweden. His Ph.D. work at Uppsala University focused on identifying and analyzing the gene causing Best disease. Dr. Bakall continued his research at the University of Arizona as a postdoctoral fellow, where he also completed his ophthalmology residency training. His work at the University of Iowa targets Stargardt disease, Usher syndrome, Best disease and other inherited retinal dystrophies.
