Conference Registration Questions

When can I register for VISIONS 2015? How do I register?

Registration for VISIONS 2015 is open now. You can register one of three ways:

  • Online - Visit www.FightBlindness.org/visions. Please note that while registration information is available, online registration is not yet open.

  • Standard Mail - Download registration form at www.FightBlindness.org/VISIONS. Complete and send through regular mail with payment. You must complete a registration form for EACH individual you register.

  • Phone - Call 800-683-5555.

How much does it cost to register for the conference?

The cost of attending VISIONS 2015 depends upon the type of registration you choose and, in some cases, the age of the person you are registering. The different types of registrations and their rates are:

Full Conference Registration – Includes admission to all conference sessions, meal functions, and access to the exhibit hall for the duration of the conference.

  • Adult -- $310 (After February 28: $360)
    Adult full conference registration is for individuals age 21 and older.
  • Young Adult -- $260 (After February 28: $310)
    Young adult full conference registration is for individuals between the ages of 12 and 20.
  • Child -- $115 (After February 28: $140)
    Child full conference registration is for individuals age 11 and under.

One Day Registration – Includes your admission to the conference sessions, meal functions, and access to the Exhibit Hall for that day only.

  • Friday Only - $190
  • Saturday Only - $215

Meal Only Registration – For unregistered guests who wish to attend only that meal function with a registered VISIONS guest. Meal only registration does not allow access to conference sessions, other meal functions, or the Exhibit Hall.

  • Friday Luncheon - $65
  • Saturday Reception & Dinner - $90

Exhibit Hall Pass Registration – Includes access to the Exhibit Hall only for one day.

  • Exhibit Hall Pass - $40

What does the full conference registration fee cover?

Your full conference registration fee covers access to all conference sessions and meal functions held between Thursday, June 25 and Sunday, June 28, 2015. It also includes access to the Exhibit Hall through the duration of the conference.

What meal functions are included during the conference?

The meal functions will include the following:

  • Friday - Continental Breakfast, Opening Luncheon (seated), Afternoon Coffee Break, Exhibitor’s Reception (hors d’oeuvres will be served and guests receive 1 complimentary beverage each)

  • Saturday - Continental Breakfast, Lunch in the Exhibit Hall, Afternoon Coffee Break, Reception (guests receive 2 complimentary beverages each), and Dinner (seated)

  • Sunday - Continental Breakfast

Can I register for just one day of the conference?

Yes, one-day registration is available for Friday ($190) and Saturday ($215). One day registration provides access to conference sessions, meal functions and the Exhibit Hall for that day only.

Can a friend or family member who is not registered for the conference attend meal functions with me?

Yes. Tickets for the following seated meals are available for purchase. You may purchase them when you register or on-site during the conference at the Registration Desk. The prices are as follows:

  • Friday’s Opening Luncheon - $65
  • Saturday’s Reception & Dinner Dance - $90

I am visually impaired and need to bring someone with me as a guide. Do I need to register my guide?

If your guide plans to attend the sessions and meal functions with you, then YES, they must be registered for the conference. If your guide only plans to escort you to and from the sessions and meal functions of your choice, then they do not need to be registered.

Can I reduce the registration fee by not attending the meal functions?

No. The registration fee is all-inclusive.

Is there financial assistance available for the registration fees?

The Foundation Fighting Blindness is not able to provide financial assistance. You may want to try contacting your local service organizations to solicit sponsorship if you provide a written or oral report of your experience to the group in return.

Are the registration fees tax deductible?

No. The registration cost is a program fee, not a contribution.

Can I register at the door?

Yes. Please note that we prefer that you register in advance for our planning purposes, especially if you have any special needs. Also, if you register at the door you will not be included on the participant’s list, which is a list of VISIONS 2015 attendees that will be distributed via email to all conference attendees.

General Conference Questions

Can I bring someone to assist me getting to conference sessions and functions?

You are welcome to bring someone as a guide to assist you in getting to conference sessions and meals. However, this person cannot sit in on sessions or meal functions unless they are registered for the conference.

Can I tape the conference sessions on my own audio recorder?

You can record general science and informative sessions on your own recorder, so long as it is not disruptive to the flow of the session. Note that the Foundation also records the sessions and will make them available to all attendees after the conference.

Will audio recordings of all the sessions be available after the conference?

Yes. All of the sessions at VISIONS 2015 will be recorded and available for instant streaming or download on the VISIONS website. If you would like them on CD, they will be available for purchase.

Are continuing education credits given for this conference?

No. However, we can provide a letter verifying conference registration and attendance.

Is there childcare available during the conference?

No.

Hotel & Travel Questions

Once I’ve registered for the conference, am I also registered for a hotel room?

No. You must make your own hotel reservation separately and directly with the hotel.

How do I make hotel reservations?

All reservations should be made, modified or canceled by you, the conference attendee, by calling Marriott Reservations at 1-800-228-9290 and referring to the group and meeting name – Foundation Fighting Blindness VISIONS Conference.  Reservations must be made on or before the cut-off date of June 8, 2015 in order to receive the discounted room rate. All attendees will be responsible for their own room, tax and incidental charges.

How much are the hotel reservations for VISIONS 2015?

The Foundation Fighting Blindness has negotiated a special rate of $169/night for VISIONS 2015 participants. Please note that you MUST reserve your room by June 8, 2015 to receive the Foundation’s special discounted room rate for this conference. The room rates will be available to attendees three (3) days prior and three (3) days after the meeting dates based on availability.

How can I get from the airport to the hotel?

The Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel is located just 12 miles from the Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI). A 25-minute cab ride to the hotel from the airport should cost approximately $30. Guest can also take train or light rail from BWI to Baltimore's Penn Station and then a taxi from Penn Station to the Marriott. Should you decide to travel to VISIONS 2015 by train, Baltimore's Penn Station is located just 1 mile north of the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and services both MARC and Amtrak rail lines.

Other nearby airports include Ronald Reagan Washington National (45 miles; approximately $110 cab ride) and Dulles International Airport (52 miles; approximately $130 cab ride).  

Special Needs Questions

Can I bring my guide dog? What guide dog facilities are available?

Yes, guide dogs are welcome at VISIONS 2015. There will be a designated relief area for all service animals outside of the Marriott. If you plan to bring your guide dog, please be sure to indicate so when you register.

What is an assistive listening device? How can I get one?

Assistive listening devices (ALDs) are used to help those who use a hearing aid listen to sessions. The ALD will broadcast the session directly through the person’s hearing aid or to a headset they are wearing (provided). ALDs will be provided on a complimentary basis for all sessions. Please indicate that you would like an ALD when you register.

Is the conference program available as audio?

Yes, we can provide an audio version of the program (mp3 file or CD). However, requests for this type of program must be received no later than May 15, 2015.

Is the conference program available in Braille?

Yes, you can receive the conference program in Braille. However, requests for this type of program must be received no later than May 15, 2015.

Are there sign language interpreters available during conference sessions?

American Sign Language and Tactile Interpreters for those who are significantly deaf or deaf-blind will be available. Requests for interpreters must be received no later than May 15, 2015. Please indicate if you need an interpreter when you register. Someone from the Foundation will then contact you to discuss your specific needs..

Are any of the sessions given in different languages?

All of the sessions will be presented in English.
