West Fairfield Chapter Leadership News
Welcome to the Westchester-Fairfield Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, serving communities in New York and Connecticut! We would love to have you become part of our Chapter and help us to grow our community support and outreach to visually impaired people and their families. Whether you are newly diagnosed or been living with visual challenges for a long time, we are here for you!
During this past year, our leadership team welcomed new members and held an information session about resources available for the visually impaired in New York and Connecticut. With the JCC of mid-Westchester, we co-sponsored a book signing and talk by Rebecca Alexander, author of NOT FADE AWAY: A Memoir of Senses Lost and Found. Our Chapter is very active in the annual Fashion Ball fundraiser, which is held in New York City every spring to raise money for sight saving research.
We also sponsored several fundraisers in advance of our 2015 VisionWalk, which was held on September 20th at Glen Island Park. It was a beautiful fall day and a festive atmosphere for all ages. Best of all, we raised over $112,000 to help fund research which will cure blindness! During 2016, we plan to grow our Chapter and expand our events. Our first Speaker Series of the year will be held on Saturday, April 9th from 10:30-12:30 at the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd, 6th Floor – Safety Training Room, Stamford, CT. For more information and to RSVP, contact Katie Van Benschoten at KVanBenschoten@FightBlindness.org or call 212-244-1470. Attendance is free and all are welcome.
Our 2016 VisionWalk is scheduled for October 1st at Glen Island Park. It’s not too early to form your team or join an existing team. We can make a difference!
