Portland Chapter Welcome Letter (ME)
Welcome to the Maine Chapter!
Perhaps, like us, you have sponsored the participation of a friend or family member in a walk benefiting a worthy cause, or you have even taken part in one yourself. Each year thousands of these walks raise considerable public awareness and hundreds of millions of dollars for a myriad of national health problems.
On Sunday, June 10, 2012, the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) will host the Maine VisionWalk to support the mission of FFB at Payson Park, in Portland, Maine. This will be our second annual walk.
We became involved in FFB in 2009 after our son was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) a degenerative eye disease. Craig received this news less than one week after attaining his multi-engine flight ratings and a B.S. Degree in flight operations. Out of the clear blue sky his life was put into a tailspin when his dream of being a corporate pilot was stripped from him, as well as the reality that RP causes a progressive loss in vision with the possibility of total blindness.
The urgent mission of FFB is to find the causes, treatments, preventions and cures for RP, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases. Since its inception in 1971, FFB has raised over $425 million and funds over thousands of research studies
Your support of VisionWalk and the Maine Chapter will help to speed the pace of research and light the darkness for Craig and ten million Americans affected by these diseases.
Please feel free to reach us at (207) 233-0658 with any questions about how you can get involved.
