Message from the President:
Welcome to the Kansas City Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. I am honored to serve as Chapter President over these many years. Each person in the Chapter has their own story as to why finding a cure is important to them. What’s yours?
Congratulations Kansas City VisionWalkers!
We had perfect weather on Saturday, June 18, 2016, and we had a great crowd of nearly 400 come out to Theis Park for our 9th Annual Kansas City VisionWalk.
We raised $56,000. CONGRATULATIONS!
We hope you all enjoyed beautiful Kaufmann Gardens and Theis Park while celebrating our fundraising efforts in support of the Foundation and the critical research it funds. Our teams and families did another amazing job of fundraising. We are still collecting donations over the next week.
THANKS TO OUR WALK COMMITTEE!
We want to give special thanks to our Walk Chairs, Katie and Wayne Murrow; Youth Chair Zoe Murrow; Family Chairs Brent and Angee Donelan; Lions Outreach Chair Alcy Malkmus; Leo Outreach Chair Lauren Bernard; KC Chapter President Terry Super; Volunteer Coordinator Theresa Richardson, and the rest of our strong Walk Committee ... Lindsey Smith, Jennifer Smith, and Lori Johnson. Your leadership and dedication to the VisionWalk was the driving force behind our success.
THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS!
We would also like to thank our sponsors: Our National Sponsors, Regeneron and Genentech; Community Captain, Sprint Communications; our Community Leader, VinSolutions (VinCares), and our Community Partners, Retina Associates, the Country Club of Leawood, Terry Super - Greater KC Community Foundation, Transaction Network Services and Selective Site Consultants, Inc.
We always have a great number of Community Supporters: Fresh & Tasty Catering, the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, Jose Peppers, Kohl’s Stores, Richard Testwuide Family, David & Sara Kaemmer Family, Twisted Halloween, Konrad & Mary Jo Testwuide Foundation, and Thomas & Wendy Testwuide.
A special thank you to the many community and in-kind donors who made Saturday such a great day for so many, especially Starbucks, Einstein Brothers Bagels, Brent Donelan and Identity Crisis, Kona Ice, the Kansas City Fire Department, Glacier Ice, Moment in Time Photography, and Liberty Fruit.
We would like to give special recognition to Kohl's for bringing top-notch volunteers from two stores, the Kaemmer family for arriving with a bunch early on and throughout the day, our Sprint volunteers, and all the Lions Club volunteers from several clubs. Thank you to the Star Wars cosplayers from the 501st Legion who pushed on through the morning and posed for some awesome photos in full costume despite the heat. Thanks to special guests, Battery Tour with Christian Robinson. A big shout out to the dancers from Bri's Dance Studio, who were AWESOME entertaining the crowd and helping with our warm-ups.
We also welcomed our partners in support for the blind and visually impaired community, with information tables staffed by Alphapointe, Saving Sight and the Kansas City Audio Reader Network.
And finally, a HUGE thank you to all the Team Captains, walkers, and volunteers! Your support, dedication, and energy made the day a true success.
With you a Cure is in Sight!

Featured Volunteer: Lindsey Smith
About seven years ago I became acquainted with the Kansas City Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB). I was searching for information concerning current research being done for retinal degenerative diseases. After attending my first meeting with the Kansas City Chapter, I discovered so much more than just research.
