Message from the Presidents:
Dear friends of the Bay Area chapter. We are Sandra and and Henry Wong, co-presidents of the Bay Area chapter. In December of 2004, after going through a series of tests and eye examinations, we learned that our son, Connor, had Stargardt disease. As Connor’s parents, we were stunned. He is the eldest of our two sons.

VISIONS FOR THE FUTURE
Visionary Awards Dinner
Tuesday, April 17, 2018
California Academy of Sciences
On Tuesday, April 17th the Foundation Fighting Blindness will be honoring two extraordinary women at its Annual San Francisco Dinner, Visions for the Future, at the California Academy of Sciences.
This year we are excited to present Visionary Awards to Jacque Duncan, MD and Diane Winokur.
Jacque Duncan, MD is known to many of our members in the San Francisco Bay area. Dr Duncan is a Professor, Clinical Opthalmology at UCSF and serves as Chair of the Foundation's Scientific Advisory Board. She received her medical degree from UCSF and has devoted her career specializing in treating retina degenerations. In addition to leading the Scientific Advisory Board, she supports the local chapter through participation in VisionWalk as well as speaker and moderator of many Bay Area presentations. We are pleased to be honoring Dr. Duncan with this over-due award.
Diane Winokur is new to the Foundation family. Ms Winokur is an ALS Advocate, Board Member of CIRM and Board Member of the Packard Institute for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins Medical School. She has been an active leader nationally and internationally in science and biotechnology and has a keen grasp of the public-private partnership that drives innovation and discovery in the ALS community and beyond. We are pleased to be honoring Ms. Winokur for the inspiration she gives to this community.
We hope you will consider joining us as we celebrate the achievements of our distinguished honorees. The evening will begin with a reception and silent auction in the African Hall, will include a masked dinner experience, and provide the unique opportunity to dine inside the beautiful California Academy of Sciences.

In most respects, Elan Zankman is a typical nine-year-old kid. He’s a fierce competitor in soccer and basketball, and enjoys a long volley on the tennis court with his father, Eric. He is also a math whiz and a fan of board games. “He’s been practicing basketball very doggedly lately,” says his mother, Pam. “Elan is an intense kid. He likes to win.”
