In 2004, eight-year-old, Cole Nowak, was diagnosed with X-linked retinitis pigmentosa (XLRP), a rare degenerative eye disease that is quietly but quickly taking his sight. Cole and10 million other Americans suffering from retinal diseases are at risk of goingblind unless a cure can be found. All funds from this event will be directed to the “Cole Nowak Climb Towards Sight Award” to be designated specifically to a research project to cure retinitis pigmentosa made possible by the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB). Through the efforts of FFB, Cole is now taking part in a FFB-funded five-year clinical trial being conducted by the Retina Foundation of the Southwest in Dallas, Texas.

ColeRPalooza is an all day event at Western Turnpike & Pavilion, beginning with a golf tournament, followed by a good old-fashioned barbecue spread and live music for more than 400 participants. In the past two years, this event has raised more than $130,000 for critical retinal research in the state of New York. This year alone, ColeRPalooza is poised to raise more than $50,000.
