Dallas Leaders to Fight Blindness at Ebby Halliday's 100th Birthday Roast & Toast Celebration

Dallas, TX - January 31, 2011 - The Foundation Fighting Blindness (www.FightBlindness.org) will honor  local business and community icon Ebby Halliday at a 100th Birthday Roast & Toast on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas at 5:30 p.m. Affected with a retinal disease, Halliday chose for this centennial celebration to benefit the Foundation Fighting Blindness, which  drives sight-saving research.

“Ebby Halliday’s longstanding commitment to philanthropy is inspiring, and the sustained support she has granted the Foundation Fighting Blindness will surely lead to brighter futures for the more than 10 million Americans affected with retinal degenerative diseases,” said Bill Schmidt, CEO, Foundation Fighting Blindness. “As a testament to her impressive success and generous spirit, the evening will celebrate all things Ebby, including her favorite foods, dessert and music. The evening will even feature a ukulele performance as Ebby is a longtime player.”

Well-known supporters and friends of Halliday will attend, including the Honorary Event Co-Chairs: Margot and Ross Perot; Madeleine and T. Boone Pickens; Nita and The Honorable Pete Sessions; Llura and Foundation Fighting Blindness Chairman Gordon Gund; Roger Horchow; and Marianne and Roger Staubach. Other notable guests include Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones, The Honorable Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, among others.

Guests will enjoy performances by Tony Orlando, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Dallas Ukulele Headquarters, and the Happy Valley Farm Academy Children’s Choir, as well as toasts and tributes from the Dallas Mavericks and some of Texas’ most distinguished leaders. National Association of Broadcasters’ Radio Hall of Fame Member Ron Chapman will host as emcee. The event is being produced by award-winning production company Scott Mauro Entertainment Inc.

Founder and chairman of Ebby Halliday Companies, Halliday evolved her business savvy from selling hats at a department store to launching what is now one of the largest and best-known privately owned residential real estate firms in the country. Halliday received the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ Visionary Award in 2008 for her leadership and support in driving research for retinal degenerative diseases. The funds raised will support the Foundation Fighting Blindness and scientific research at leading universities and institutions, including the Retina Foundation of the Southwest in Dallas and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, to find preventions, treatments and cures for blinding eye diseases. The celebration will also help raise awareness about retinal degenerative diseases and support for the more than 700,000 visually impaired residents living in Texas.
