Hotel Staff Trains with Blindfolds to Prepare for VISIONS 2008

Owings Mills, MD - August 6, 2008 - In preparation for the Foundation Fighting Blindness National Conference, VISIONS 08, hotel staff at the Crystal City Hyatt Regency will take part in a special training session to learn best practices for accommodating visually impaired guests. From being blindfolded to learning how to appropriately serve a meal to making their presence known when entering and leaving a conversation – staff of the Hyatt Regency will receive a special briefing on Wednesday, August 6 on how to best cater to their visually impaired guests. The VISIONS 08 conference begins Friday, August 8 and concludes August 10.


As part of the briefing, staff members will be blindfolded to help simulate blindness and understand first-hand their guests’ needs. The briefing, taking place at 10a.m. and 3p.m., is open to the media.

VISIONS 2008 is a national conference dedicated to understanding research toward cures for diseases that cause blindness including retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Stargardt disease, and Usher syndrome among others. Conference is conducted by the Foundation Fighting Blindness, which funded research that reversed blindness in several patients earlier this year.

Foundation Fighting Blindness

The Foundation Fighting Blindness (www.FightBlindness.org) is the largest source of non-governmental funding for retinal degenerative disease research in the world. The urgent mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome, and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases.
