Reaching People Through Radio

Wednesday, 30 May 2012

Educating the public about retinal degenerative diseases is an important part of the Foundation’s work as research for preventions, treatments and cures advances. With more than 10 million Americans affected with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and baby boomers becoming more at risk for developing the disease, spreading the word about AMD is critical.

Through a new national radio public service announcement (PSA) campaign launched in May, the Foundation is highlighting the importance of early detection and recognizing AMD warning signs like blurry vision and needing more light to read. People who hear the message can call for more information about preventing and managing AMD. Getting informed is key to saving sight, and the Foundation is committed to being the premier resource for individuals and families at risk.

The power of the PSA is clear. Through the Foundation’s last radio campaign, which was launched last fall and tracked over six months, more than 250 stations throughout the country aired the :30 and :60-second messages an estimated 27,500 times to reach an estimated 1.24 million listeners.
