As part of the Foundation’s commitment to public health education and awareness, reaching out to patients through public service announcements (PSAs) is a powerful way to spread the word about FFB’s free retinal degenerative disease resources and information.
An ongoing print PSA campaign targets national magazines for in-kind exposure and has achieved visibility in highly circulated publications including AARP The Magazine, Southern Living, Reader’s Digest, and Cooking Light to reach millions of readers. Two of the four print PSA concepts focus on awareness for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) since such a large population of older Americans is at risk of losing vision to AMD. An online PSA component also graced computer screens tuned into the websites for Women’s Health and
Men’s Health magazines.
Through a national radio PSA campaign, listeners are being alerted to the importance of recognizing AMD warning signs and receiving an early diagnosis, as well as the Foundation’s research efforts toward treatments and cures. Reaching people who are affected with, or at risk for, retinal degeneration is an important part of the Foundation’s effort to be the premier source of education and information for vision-robbing retinal conditions.
