The Foundation Fighting Blindness recently worked with the Biotechnology Industry Organization to develop a video highlighting the continued advancements in gene therapy clinical trials. The video, “New Hope for Gene Therapy… A Young Boy’s Fight Against Blindness,” produced by WHITECOAT Strategies, was awarded the gold medal for best public relations video from the Television, Internet and Video Association of DC (TIVA-DC) PEER Awards on Saturday (November 13th).

New Hope for Gene Therapy VideoThe video tells the inspirational story of Corey Haas, a 9-year-old boy who was born virtually blind due to Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA). Thanks to a remarkable gene therapy clinical trial for LCA, which was funded in part by the Foundation, Corey is now experiencing restored vision. The video premiered during the keynote speech at BIO’s 2010 International Convention.

“We’re honored to win an award doing what we love – telling the amazing stories of advancements in science, which are often emotional and personal,” said WHITECOAT Strategies’ Chief Creative Officer David Welch. “We’re proud to be working with great research organizations such as the Foundation Fighting Blindness.”

Corey and his family, who are active members of the Foundation, have also appeared on CBS News to talk about how the gene therapy has changed their lives.
