More than 10 million Americans are losing the battle against blindness, including Notre Dame’s President Emeritus, Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., who has suffered from macular degeneration for several years. But blindness isn’t always related to age. In fact, no age group is immune. However, there is some light on the horizon as recent research pinpoints effective treatments capable of altering certain forms of the disease.
