September 13, 2009: Foundation Board Member, Karen Petrou, Raises Awareness in New York Times’ “The Boss”

Karen Petrou has been motivated and hard-working all her life. Diagnosed at 18 with the blinding retinal disease retinitis pigmentosa, she never let her vision loss slow her down. She went on to graduate from Wellesley, earning credits from M.I.T. as well, and then into a successful career in finance. Currently a managing partner of Federal Financial Analytics in Washington, D.C., Karen is an industry expert and frequent financial news contributor.

Karen is as passionate about supporting the Foundation Fighting Blindness as she is about her work. She is an active member of the Foundation’s board of directors, a member of the finance and government relations committees, and attends all major Foundation meetings including Day of Science and the VISIONS Conferences.

On September 13, The New York Times showcased Karen’s impressive accomplishments in the face of a great challenge in their column entitled, “The Boss.” Click here to read more.

September 27, 2009: Success in Artificial Retina Clinical Trials is Promising

Blindness first began creeping up on Barbara Campbell when she was a teenager, and by her late 30s, her eye disease had stolen what was left of her sight. Reliant on a talking computer for reading and a cane for navigating New York City, where she lives and works, Ms. Campbell, now 56, would have been thrilled to see something. Anything.
