Foundation Appoints Four New National Trustees to Advance Mission

The Foundation Fighting Blindness has appointed four new national trustees to further advance the organization’s fundraising, organizational development, and volunteer recruitment efforts.

“We are an organization where the board and trustees are highly active and essential to the advancement of our mission,” says William T. Schmidt, chief executive officer, Foundation Fighting Blindness. “We are delighted to have these individuals undertake critical leadership roles with the Foundation.”

The new trustees are: Steven D. Browne, Christopher Coleman, William J. Link, and Wren McNiel.'

Steven D. BrowneSteven D. Browne and his wife, Carolyn, have been actively involved with the Foundation Fighting Blindness since 2001. The Brownes have been leaders in the development of the first VisionWalk in San Antonio and have also been involved in the creation of a new FFB chapter. Both are active in FFB’s Usher 1B project and have helped the Foundation secure significant grants from local foundations. Mr. Browne is an attorney with Langley & Banack.
Christopher ColemanChristopher Coleman and his wife, Linda, have been active in the development of the Foundation within the San Francisco Bay Area since 2005, and helped establish the Bay Area Challenge. Mr. Coleman is currently a senior credit officer with First Republic Bank in San Francisco.
William J. Link, Ph.D.William J. Link, Ph.D., and his wife, Marsha, became involved with the Foundation through their leadership in numerous Foundation events in Orange County, California. Dr. Link was a Visionary Award honoree for the 2006 Orange County Dining in the Dark. He is co-founder and managing director of Versant Ventures. His ophthalmology business ventures have led to products benefiting millions of people with retinal conditions and other visual impairments.
Wren McNiel and her husband JimWren McNiel and her husband, Jim, have been active in the Foundation since 1997. Mrs. McNiel has been instrumental in the formation of the Foundation’s Long Island Chapter and is currently serving as the Chapter co-president. The McNiel family has served as chairs for the Long Island VisionWalk since 2007. Jim is a member of the FFB board of directors.
