Multinational Genetic Study of Retinal Degenerations: NEI

RECRUITING

Description: The National Eye Institute (NEI) is leading a study of inherited retinal degenerations in families with varying ethnic and national backgrounds. The goal is to identify new genetic mutations that lead to retinal degenerative diseases. As many as 5,000 people will be enrolled in the study. Participating institutions include: the National Institutes for Health in Bethesda, Maryland; the University of Miami in Florida; the Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon; the Byrd Health Sciences Center in Morgantown, West Virginia; the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas; the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis; the Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India; National Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology in Lahore, Pakistan; and the Jules Gonin Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Trial Status: Ongoing; recruiting participants.

Partial List of Participation Criteria:

  1. 4 years of age and older
  2. Retinal degenerative disease including congenital, childhood, or age-related
