2013 Cleveland VisionWalk

On Saturday, May 18th, 2013 twenty seven teams and 400 walkers gathered at Wade Oval – University Circle to raise funds and awareness for retinal degenerative disease research. Our walkers blew their $60,000 fundraising goal out of the water by raising over $100,000 for retinal research! Reaching this milestone is a local record in the Cleveland community and our walkers and teams are very proud. Congratulations to our teams and walkers for a hugely successful walk and a great season of advocacy!

We want to extend a thank you to our walk co-chairs, Rose Coyne and Sue Funk, for their tremendously hard work this year. Special thanks also go to Mark Arnold of American Blind Golf, who served as our Honorary Chair, Meghan Marino, CGC from Cleveland Clinic’s Cole Eye Institute, who served as our Medical Chair, and Frank Petruziello, who served as our Young Professional Chair. And of course, our day wouldn’t have been as special without the hard work of our Logistics Chair, Diane Burns, our in-kind food donations from Crystal Katsaris of Chris’ Family Restaurant in Bedford, OH and Rich Purgert of ABC Rental / Party Safari! We also want to thank our 2013 VisionWalk Committee, who worked diligently to ensure our day was perfect!

This year's sponsors included: GE Lighting, The George Gund Foundation, Cole Eye Institute, Clear Choice Laser, University Hospitals Eye Institute, The Lubrizol Foundation, American Blind Golf, Arthur J. Gallagher Foundation, and Uncle Bob’s Self Storage.

We also want to thank the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Lake Erie Monsters for sending their mascots, Moondog, Sir CC and Sully out to celebrate with us! And of course, a huge thank you to our volunteers from the Kohl’s and Wickliffe High School National Honor Society who ensured the day ran very smoothly.
