A Roast & Toast to Ebby Halliday for Her 100th Birthday
|
Dallas, TX – On February 23, more than 500 guests joined the Foundation Fighting Blindness to honor one of Texas’ first ladies, Ebby Halliday, with A Roast & Toast for her 100th birthday. Ebby made her grand entrance into the ballroom at the Hilton Anatole escorted by Dallas Cowboys legend Roger Staubach, as the Ebby Halliday Centennial All Male Review comprised of Ross Perot, Congressman Pete Session, Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes, and others sang “Well hello Ebby…You’re looking swell Ebby!”Ron Chapman, Broadcast Hall of Fame Member, served as the evening’s emcee. The event featured performances by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Dallas Ukulele Headquarters, and The Happy Hill Farm Academy Choir. The evening’s presenters offered more toasts than roasts of the real estate legend as the guests listened to stories by Roger Staubach, T. Boone Pickens, The Honorable Tom Leppert, Mary Frances Burleson, Betty Turner, Gene Jones, and Dick Gaylord. Perhaps one of the most memorable moments of the evening came when celebrated American singer Tony Orlando serenaded Ebby and the crowd with her favorite song, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree.” Guests were thrilled as Ebby took Orlando's hand, danced with him, and sang along into the microphone. Orlando performed several other hit songs for the crowd and had guests dancing at their tables. Thanks to the Event Co-Chairs Margot and Ross Perot, Madeleine and T. Boone Pickens, Ruth and Kenneth Altshuler, M.D., Nita and The Honorable Pete Sessions, Llura and Gordon Gund, Roger Horchow, Laura and The Honorable Tom Leppert, Gene and Jerry Jones, and Marianne and Roger Staubach, and a dedicated dinner committee led by Connie Carreker, the evening raised more than $650,000 for retinal disease research.
