Chicago, IL - 11th Annual Hammer Open Charity Classic
|
The St.Margaret Mary Knights of Columbus Council #11091 sponsored the 11th Annual Hammer Open Charity Classic on Sunday, August 22nd. Held at the Golf Club of Illinois in Algonquin, it included 94 golfers, over 50 sponsors, and 18 volunteers. Once again, we were blessed with terrific weather, and participants who were generous in their support of our charities.
As in past years, 100% of the net proceeds from this event are donated equally to four charities: American Cancer Society, Foundation Fighting Blindness, Rett Syndrome Association of Illinois, and United Cerebral Palsy. This year, the Hammer Open generated over $12,000 in net proceeds from the event, which resulted in each charity receiving over $3,000. Since its inception, the Hammer Open has contributed, in total, over $121,000 to these charities. Mark your calendars! Next year’s Hammer Open is scheduled for Sunday, August 21st. Thanks to all who made this another successful event! |

The Hammer Open has been played every year since 2000 and is in memory of Jerry “The Hammer” Schneider, who passed away in 1999 from lung cancer. Jerry was a Knight of Columbus for nearly 50 years. As an avid golfer, Jerry always wanted to see the Council host an annual golf outing for charity. The Knights of Columbus decided to honor Jerry’s memory, by naming this event after him.
