Co-Chaired by Dr. Jim Schott and Lee Corso of ESPN Congratulations, Central Florida! Thank you to everyone involved for making this year’s walk a huge success!
Sunday, May 2nd was a sunny and beautiful morning, which provided the perfect backdrop for the 5th Annual Orlando VisionWalk. An amazing turnout of approximately 400 walkers joined us for the fantastic, fun-filled morning! The Walk has raised almost $117,000 thanks to your generous support and commitment! Keep checking our website at www.VisionWalk.org to watch our thermometer rise!
Many thanks to our wonderful Walk Co-Chairs, Jim Schott and Lee Corso, as well as our Business Chair, Travis Loseke. Of course, we also want to thank all of our fabulous Team Captains for organizing their teams and getting the community involved to get the word out about the event.
Congratulations to all of our Teams!! The current top 10 Teams (as of Walk Day) are as follows:
Top 10 Teams:
Sight for Sore Eyes Schott Blindbusters Team Townsend One Step at a Time Lake Mary Prep Sight Seekers Walking for Brendan & Cameron Boone HS Alumni Team Charles Schwab Team Dancer's Pointe Spoones
A special thanks to our sponsors whose support helped to make this event a success:
Walmart Health & Wellness The Chatlos Foundation Jim & Ginny Schott Sunray Homes Dixie Crossroads Merill Lynch/Bank of America Space Gateway Schleich Family Foundation Charles Schwab
Once again the Walk kicked off with a couple of energizing dance performances from the students of Dancer’s Pointe. The students went on to win the coveted “Best Team Spirit” award, but only after going head to head with our new Corporate partner team, the Walmart Visionaries. The Walmart Visionaries came out strong with over 70 team members cheering, but it was just hard to beat the large group of Dancer’s Pointe students and their overwhelming energy and enthusiasm. Way to go ladies!
This year our walkers had many new activities to partake in before the walk. Walmart set up a large team booth with wonderful giveaways and even held a raffle of a large 27” flat screen TV won by one of our lucky walkers. Also our new regional partner, ShopLowVision.com and Optelec, invited all walkers to join them in the new interactive Vision Zone tent for gift bags full of wonderful freebies, and interactive display of great low vision aids, and even a live cooking demonstration. Everyone was able to see a live taping of the show, Cooking without Looking. What a sweet treat for our wonderful walkers!
We also want to send a special thanks to our wonderful photographer, David Evertsen of Phabulous Photos for once again helping us to capture all of the wonderful walk memories! To view this year’s Walk photos, please click here.
This event could not have been such a glowing success without the support of so many. We send our deepest thanks to our Volunteers, Sponsors, Team Captains, Walkers, Committee Members, Chapter Members, Chapter President, and Co-Chairs Dr. Jim Schott and Lee Corso.
If you missed the walk and would still like to donate, contact us at (866) 782-7330 or make an online donation through this web page. We look forward to your continued support and participation!
