St. Louis VisionWalk - September 2009
|
Congratulations! The rain held out to the very end, making for a beautiful day on Saturday! And combined with the fact that the St. Louis VisionWalk reached goal BEFORE Walk day and continued with an impressive effort on Saturday, I'd say it was just about PERFECT. That is an impressive accomplishment for all of you. We had more than 700 participants at Tower Grove Park, nearly 300 more than last year, so our Walk is GROWING! The record amount of money you raised ($100,000 and counting!) will fund critical research projects seeking a cure for retinal diseases. We want to give special thanks to our Walk Chair, April Marsaglia, Business Chair Jason Morris, Medical Chair Dr. Milam Brantley, Jr. from Washington University's Department of Ophthalmology and Barnes Retina Institute, Family Chair Kelly Buckallew, Youth Chairs Pete Jacobs and Bryce Marsaglia, and our growing Walk Committee ... Jack Wiedmer, Leslie Morris, Krys Jacobs, Bob and Jill Morris, Bob Stamm, Clint Cruise, Adriane Underwood, Keith and Erica Warden, Jennifer Kraemer, Carol Sullivan, Laura Abrams and Val Dietz. Your leadership and dedication to the VisionWalk was the driving force behind our success. We appreciate Honorary Walk Chairs Julie Buck and Maurice Drummond for opening our stage festitivities and welcoming Mayor Francis Slay to say a few kind words about the Foundation and our big crowd in attendance. Other elected St. Louis officials who joined us included Collector of Revenue, Gregory F.X. Daly, Alderman Shane Cohn, Alderman Stephen Gregali, Alderwoman Jennifer Florida and State Representative Mike Colona. We would also like to thank our primary sponsors: Dennis and Judy Jones, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Jason & Leslie Morris, and the Worthington Foundation. Thanks to our contributing sponsors as well: C.A.P.S. Inc., Centric Group, LLC, Emerson Electric, Express Scripts Foundation, First National Bank of St. Louis, Kodner Gallery of the Masters, Lighthouse for the Blind, Ozark Association of the Blind, The Albrecht Family Charitable Foundation, The Hager Companies, Bob and Jill Morris, The Von Gontard Foundation, Dr. Eric Mann and The Retina Group. Kudos to the many community sponsors and in-kind donors who made Saturday such a great day for so many. Special thanks to Robyn Osten from Life's Little Celebrations photography, who volunteered her time and service to take a LOT of great photos, which will be posting shortly. And finally, a HUGE thank you to all the Team Captains, walkers, and volunteers! Your support, dedication, and energy made the day a true success. |
