Orlando, FL – 3rd Annual Orlando VisionWalk

Co-Chaired by Dr. Jim Schott and Lee Corso of ESPN

Sunday, May 4th, 2008 was an amazing day in Orlando for the hundreds of walkers that came in support of FFB’s 3rd Annual VisionWalk event! As the sun was rising, volunteers were already busy at work putting the final touches on what proved to be a fantastic event.

The fanfare included everything from a fabulous breakfast spread provided by Albertson’s, Panera Bread and Publix Super Markets; to a bounce house, face painting, music, and even wonderful dance performances from the students of Dancer’s Pointe.

Co-Chairs Dr. Jim Schott and Lee Corso were as energetic and positive as ever, helping to get the crowds geared up and ready to walk. Joining in on the fun, Nick Anderson of the Orlando Magic Basketball Team came out to show his support and sign autographs for fans. We even had a special guest appearance by 535 a local boy band that was helping to promote the upcoming concert in Downtown Orlando on May 24th, with all proceeds coming to the VisionWalk event.

Amidst all of the fun and excitement, the true focus of the event was still as prevalent as ever. Everyone attending VisionWalk was trying to do their part to help raise funds for the Foundation Fighting Blindness for retinal degenerative research.

We have always had an outpouring of support from all the teams to help thousands of dollars, and this year was no exception. Colonial Bank proved once again they have what it takes to come out on top, raising money through their team and bringing in a sponsorship totaling nearly $25,000! The Schott Striders were in a close second with almost $21,000 and it was close race between Sight For Sore Eyes Team and Team Townsend battling it out for third place, each ending with over $15,800 and $13,900 respectively. Of course our largest team comes as no surprise with Lake Mary Prep Sight Seekers led by Teresa Suris with 101 registered members taking the crown once again.

This event could not have been such a glowing success without the support of so many. We send our deepest thanks to our Volunteers, Sponsors, Team Captains, Walkers, Committee Members, Chapter Members, Chapter President, and Co-Chairs Dr. Jim Schott and Lee Corso.

The 4th Annual Orlando VisionWalk is tentatively set for May 2009 once again at Cypress Grove Park. An announcement will be made when the date is confirmed and when the new 2009 website is ready for registration.
