Srinivas Sadda, M.D.

Dr. Sadda is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, Doheny Eye Institute. He is Director of the Medical Retina Unit, Ophthalmic Imaging Unit, Retinal Cell Replacement Laboratory, and Doheny Image Reading Center.  He obtained his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science (Cellular and Molecular Biology) from the University of Michigan. He served as an intern at the W. Beaumont Hospital and returned to Johns Hopkins University Wilmer Eye Institute for his ophthalmology residency, followed by fellowships in neuro-ophthalmology and medical retina at Wilmer. He was then recruited to the faculty of Johns Hopkins University as assistant professor of Ophthalmology in 2000, before subsequently being recruited to USC. Dr. Sadda’s clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, hereditary retinal degenerations and macula dystrophies, retinal vascular diseases including diabetic retinopathy, and autoimmune retinopathies.

Dr. Sadda’s research interests include, retinal electrophysiology, retinal and stem cell transplantation, and retinal prosthetics (artificial retina), advanced retinal imaging technologies, and image processing algorithms. He has been focused on the development of new treatments for patients with retinal degenerative diseases for the past 15 years. Dr. Sadda has published over 50 peer review articles in prominent medical and scientific journals as has served as a scientific referee for National Institutes of Health and numerous peer-review journals. He is the recipient of numerous federal (National Institutes of Health, Department of Energy), and private research grants.

Dr. Sadda also serves as principal investigator for numerous clinical trials studying new therapies for retinal diseases such as macular degeneration.  He is a member of several medical and scientific organizations including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, Retina Society, Macula Society, and Society for Neuroscience. He has also has served leadership roles in these societies including service on the Research and Development committee of the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Sadda has also received a number of awards including American Society of Retina Specialists Honor Award (2007), American Academy of Ophthalmology Secretariat Award (2006), and the Estelle Doheny Living Tribute Award (2005).
