Mohammad Othman, Ph.D.

Mohammad I. Othman received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology. He joined the Department of Ophthalmology in 1992 as a postdoctoral fellow to study the molecular biology of signal transduction in RPE cells in the laboratory of Dr. Debra Thompson. He later did another postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Julia Richards focusing on the genetics of glaucoma, and linkage analysis and mutation screening of glaucoma genes. In 2000 he joined the laboratory of Dr. Anand Swaroop to start and manage the microarray facility. He then became responsible for all human studies of retinal degeneration including age-related macular degeneration and X-linked retinitis pigmentosa. Currently he is working with Dr. Heckenlively where he coordinates these projects within the FFB Resource Facility. Dr. Othman has coauthored several scientific papers in the area of AM.D., XLRP and microarray gene expression. He has mentored and trained scores of students and coworkers on molecular biology techniques and equipment. |
