Message from the Chapter:
Dear Friends of the FFB Boston Chapter:
It is often easier to explain why I support the Foundation Fighting Blindness by first telling a story. I was first diagnosed with hearing loss when I was about four or five years old. I started wearing hearing aids (the kinds that fit into a pocket with a wire going to your ears). Because I was somewhat delayed in my development due to the hearing loss, my audiologists strongly recommended to my parents that I attend a special needs school during my first grade year in a community about an hour away. They reluctantly agreed and found a foster home where I could stay during the week and come home weekends. Needless to say, this was not agreeable to me, and the gut-wrenching decision for the family was not without its bumps.

RP: Two Letters Brought Siblings Closer
My name is Kelley Hartmann and my family is affected by X-linked Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP).
At an early age my brother was diagnosed with RP. At the time I did not know what RP was, I never heard of it before. Judging by the tone of the diagnosis from our family eye doctor I knew it was not good and I was scared and nervous for my brother. Our doctor recommended we see a specialist and referred us to Mass Eye and Ear. I remember vividly the first time my brother and I went to Mass Eye and Ear for testing when we were still little children, we were both nervous and frightened, but we had each other. It was comforting to have my brother at my side, and me at his... we were in it together, we were a team.
