- My son was diagnosed with Stargardts when he was 16. My daughter, who is 14 is now showing some signs of vision loss. The doctor can't correct her vision and she has a lot of blurring. She has had a visual field test and a fluorocene angiogram done both of which came back negative. I'm just wondering if it's possible that it's just too soon for Stargartdts to show up on tests or if she truly doesn't have it? A

- Inoticed central vision problems in my teens-late 70's. mid 90's I examined and tested by neurologist and retinal surgeon including 2 fluorocene angiograms. I was told I didn't have stargardt's and theydid not know what was wrong.3 weeks ago and another fluorocene angiogram I was told I have preliminary stargardt's. Best wishes.

- Was either of your kids given an Amsler grid, and instructed in proper use? One of the hallmarks of Stargardts Dz, one of the first signs a patient will notice, is the ring scotoma. That is vision loss areas outside the central vision in a circle around the central vision area. Aside from the very sophisticated testing the doctor does this very simple old fashioned test can be done by the patient. Some with Stargardts may not have a ring scotoma on visual field test, but may notice some distortion, ie a crookedness of the lines, on Amsler grid. Just sayin'...TLC
