  • Vitamin A

  • Is the over the counter Vitamin A the correct type of vitamin A recommended, I went to the GNC store and bought some a few weeks ago. I am aware of the danger but prefer to take Vitamin A. But I want to do anything I can to slow the progression. Any tips?

  • This is the most contreversial issue. I wouldn't take it and don't. The study is flawed and the analysis of this is really what makes the issue questionable. Since the basis of progression is genetic, it's not really doing anything. Most people with RP do not even go totally blind which is the basis of their (study) argument by taking RP so you won't go blind.

The real question would really be, what type of Usher do you have? Type 1 was excluded from the study because the ERGs are extremely low.

Have you consulted with your ophthalmologist on this? Most I have spoken with, who are FFB researchers, do not recommend taking Vitamin A because of the contreversies surrounding this very topic.

  • Darran:
This controversy is news to me. Every time I visit my retina specialist(once in 2 years) he keeps reminding me to take my Vitamin A regularly.
Can I read more about this controversy?
    Thanks,
