- I am wondering if any of you have had your cataracts removed. If so, how did it turn out? I have been "thinking" about it for 2 years now. I'm just so scared that the little sight that I do have could possibly become worse. The doctor that I saw today(to get my contacts Rx), told me that it was just like knowing that I have something, and could make it a little better, but choosing not to...I just don't know what to do.
I have 2 small children, and right now, with my contacts, I can see them pretty well, and interact with them. If something were to go wrong, and I lost even more of my sight, or all of it, I would never forgive myself. The doctor was saying that if I had them removed I could possibly not even need my contacts. I just think that his hopes are way too high. I'm not sure if he really understands why I'm scared to do it.

- Bridget,
My doctor recommended only doing one eye and then evaluating how my vision ghanged in that eye. I had the second eye done a year later and am very happy with the outcome.
Good luck with your desision, Mike

- I have looked into cataract surgery myself. My Retinal Specialist and the surgeon cannot give me anything solid. All I get is that there is no guarantee. I have CME which makes it higher risk. I am trying to do more research before I endeavor in this procedure. Please post any developments. Thx and Good Luck

- I had cataract surgery a couple years ago. I was having trouble reading & was wearing reading glasses over my contacts to try & read or see the computer.
Since the cataract surgery I no longer need contacts & I can read so much better. the only downside is now I can see all those tiny wrinkles I never knew were on my face. ; )
The cataract surgery improved my central vision dramatically, & I am so happy to have had it done. I did not affect my peripherial vision or night vision at, which is where my RP has restricted my vision.
For me, I am so happy I did it. I am thankful that even it it did not help my RP at all, it did help make the most of the vision I do have.
Hope this helps.
