  • Hi,

I'm 29 and from Indianapolis, INand was diagnosed this week with RP. I have an appointment to meet with a low vision specialist next month. I have always experienced night blindness and lack of peripheal vision while driving, but have always recieved my license. I was wondering when I should quit driving at night, or will the low vision specialist be able to help me answer that? Thanks!

  • I have the same thing you have. I was diagnosed with RP at 14 and had bad night tunnel vision and seen a low vision rehabilitation. You should ask your doctor to see if you qualify for blind and you can get a deduction on your taxes and other discounts. I don't drive at night anymore, but can still function at a limited capacity in the day. If I was a waiter at night, I wouldn't make it to the table, haha
If you want more info you can email me at sfgiantfan30@yahoo.com
Good luck at the low vision and opthamologist appt. Jordan

  • Hi,
I also have RP. I still have my driver's license, but I only drive in the daytime. I quit driving at night when I ended up in a ditch! Very scary for me. I had a hard time driving at night for quite awhile, and knew then that it was time to stop. Looking back, I should have stopped driving at night sooner! Stay Safe. Linda
