- I'm a long follower of the site. Recently I have relocated to the Boston area of MA. I went to Mass Eye and Ear for a vision check because it's been a while. It turns out that I have RP after believing I had SD for 21 years. What's the scoop? Research wise and potential treatments, clinical trials, etc?
Thanks

- I'm sorry to hear you have AP, I found out when I was 10 and I'm coping with my 8 degree pheriphal I have left. Luckily I have my central vision left which enable me to work.
My suggestion to you is to learn as much as you can and work as much as you can so you can one day collect disability or work for an employer who offers LTD benefits.
You should take 15K IU of Vitamin A everyday and have 2-3 serving of the following
Salmon - Alakaian Wild
Tuna 0 Chuncky light
Sardiness
This will you have 10 more yrs of perpheral. It's important because you want to be able to drive and be productive.
find out if your RP is rod in cone or cone in rod. If you have cone and rod. You should be able to do things at night. The visual testing is important too because you need to know how much degree perpherial you have each yr.
I'm 39 now and don't feel it's a disability, but I stay positive knowing that there will be a cure someday.
You should go to your doctor and have him write you a letter on your RP. You are intitled to file BLIND on your federal taxes, receive a handicap placard and discount transt passes.
If you trully can't work and someone is claiming you. Your intitled to file for disability retirement on your parents social security. Let me know if you have any questions. I think I'm we'll verus on my RP and benefits by now.
