  • My names id Davida Luehrs and i have a 5 degree field and 2100 acuityas a result of RP. My cataracts have gotten more dense and I have been told that now is the time to have the left one out. I would like to hear from people who have rp and had a catqract removed, I am looking to hear both the good and bad side of the removal. Feel free to get in touch with me directly, or post here. My surgery is the beginning of July

I am very involved in the Northern Virginia chapter and all FFB that we have hosted, I am always glad to talk to othersto either share ideas or share why I think it is so great to get involved.
I also am a CNTF participant

  • Hi --

I had the surgery over 8 years ago. It made a huge difference with the glare. I was pretty nervous about the possiblity of complication and loss of what little vision I have, but it all went well. I had a great doctor and I am so glad I had it done. GOOD LUCK!

  • Hi Davida. I just saw your post. I too have RP and had cataract surgery in 1999 at the Cincinnati Eye Institute. I had absolutely no problems and it has helped reduce glare tremendously. I had one follow-up laser treatment on my right eye about five years ago - very simple, painless and quick procedure. I know many advances have been made in the lens implants in the past few years as well. I have shared my experience with others that had concerns like you, and they have all been very happy that they had the procedure done.

    Best of luck to you,
