- I have just read that the cntf trial for amd is just released and the results was encouraging very much. The results for the RP trial are expected on 6th May 2009. and i have hope that they will be encouraging just as well. I got a question that many i think got the same but maybe darranZ can give us some more insight with his expertise in the subject. given the results of the trial are ok, what phases will be left to do since the trial of RP was for phase2/3 combined. i guess the final question of many of us is when will the product be available commercially given the trial has been now also fast tracked.
who knows 3,4 ,5 years maybe :)
thanks
Hope

- My retina specialist who is involved with the trial told me last spring that this trial was really to try to approve the ECT and based on what I have heard from some of those participating, I think the ECT will be approved but we'll have to wait for a medication that works.

- Hello
thanks for your information. what do you mean by approved? isnt a medication sold commercially once it is approved? i understand that the neurotech capsule main purpose is to halt or at least slow the progression of the disease. it isnt mean to revive the dead photoreceptors no
thanks

- There are two things being studied. The actual delievery capsul (ECT) and the neurotorphic factor (CNTF).
The ECT is fine. The issue is whether the CNTF is going to work or not. From what I've seen from others who are in the study, it didn't do anything or made their eye get worse and they were able to figure out which eye the device was implanted (even though they were not suppose to). So the study is going to be mixed results right now. There are side effects that are not accounted for, the most predominat one was pupil constriction.
I would be surprsied if this passes for RP because there are so many problems that were not accounted for on this large scale study. So we'll see what happens.
