- Prism glasses for peripheral vision
- Posted: 2008-03-18 16:59:06 By Elizabeth J
- Does anyone know of the latest research or lastest invention for peripheral vision expansion for the RP condition? Just seems like there should be glasses or some device that would expand the visual field. I have the 20/20 vision but was wondering how to expand the visual field if possible. Liz

- Liz,
As far as I know there is nothing out there. However, some people buy a monoculer but look through the opposite way that would do the opposite--give you a little more visual field instead of magnifiying way down the road.

- Hi Darran,
Curious what you and your contacts think about the new article out March 18th, 2008 called "Scientists Successfully Awaken Sleeping Stem Cells in the Eye to Regenerate Retina" - Standard Newswire_ It is appears as if scientists at Schepens Eye Research Institute have made a possibly very important breakthrough. - I haven't read it yet.
But the Moran Eye Center has recently found a way that would help AMD and diabetic retinopathy by way of a protein. Some are theorizing that even with RP the cells don't "die" per se but actually shut down due to a lack of protein and this protein will reactivate the cells. This is what the Moran has discovered for AMD and diabetic retinopathy. So Stem Cells aren't the only way to fix this.

- Apparently there are some out there, but they are quite expensive and some complain they cut out too much central vision.
Here is a site which offers them, but you cannot buy off of the website.

I would recommend you contact your local low vision clinic.
