  • Flashing lights again
  • Posted: 2008-03-15 15:46:25 By Benny M
  • I know this has been discussed here before. But I don't recall it being said whether people have flashing lights in one eye more than the other or if it's the same. I have been having bright flashing lights in my right eye for 2 or 3 years on a fairly regular basis (Like at least once a day, usually more.).With an occasional light in my left eye (Maybe once a month). They break up and go away pretty quick. Here lately I've been getting them more frequently in my left also, like several a week. When I get them in both at the same time, they are a mirror image of each other. Which makes it kind of hard to focus on anything.
So I was wondering if they affect anyone else this way or if it's different for everyone? Also could it be a sign my RP is getting worse? Thanks.

  • Benny you are lucky you get the flashing lights about once a day I get them all day long ! In my case they have increased as my deterioration has increased.
Now for me it is very difficult to know from what eye they are coming from they are just there in front of me .... and I get them with my eyes open or closed. I am curious... how are you able to tell which eye they are coming from ?

  • Carolina, well I don't want to sound like I'm being smart about it, but I can just tell the left from the right. I also get them day or night and open or closed. I always get them at any light change, especially a sudden, drastic change of light. It's interesting to see how people are affected differently with the same problems.

  • Well I do not to seem to sound dumb about it but maybe I am dislexic .
Vision from both eyes overlaps at 60 degrees ( as they see the same object or area either right or left eye) so if you get the flashes in that area of the visual field like me it can be hard to tell from what eye they are coming from.

  • I understand. It's hard to explain but it's obvious to me which one it is. I think

  • Benny,

Have you researched photopsia? That's the name of perceived flashing we see. Perhaps that will answer your questions about this.
