  • CME Problems

  • I've had chronic CME for several years now. I've been on diamox sequels, trusopt and nevanac drops at different times. All have stabilized the CME so it doesn't get worst. But all have caused me different side effects and that's why I go from one to the other. I'm currently on diamox pills and we will see how long they last. Anyway, everyone reacts differently so I suggest trying all of the above at one time or the other to see what works best for you without causing problems.

  • Larry,

What are you side effects with Diamox? Are you on the Sequels now? That would help alot. But you would need to stay on them for atleast 3 weeks to notice if it does anything.

The two common side-effects with Diamox are fatigue and harmless tingling of the extremeties, along with taste changes, especiallyw ith carbonated drinks. Those are the three main ones I guess, not two. They do improve over time as your body adjusts to Diamox. However, I suggest that you eat alot of bananas and drink lots of OJ since that will help with the fatigue. It has an impact on your electrolytes (potassium) and can drain it. Thus eatting bananas and OJ helps alot! I took a potassium supplement as well. But the fatigue went away with time as well as the tingling of your feet/arms and legs.

But it sounds like you haven't been on any one medication long enough to know what really works if you are changing because of side-effects. You might as well have to get the injections if nothing else is working.

  • Darran,

Sorry, I didn't make myself very clear in my post. I was actually responding to Judy A's post of 1/31. Since it was so old I thought I would send a new message. I was trying to make a point that there are other options than Diamox or shots. My own story is that I was on Diamox sequels for 1 1/2 years and it started causing a kidney problem called tubular renal acidoses. That's when I was switched over to the Trusopt and Nevanac drops and took them for 1 1/2 years and then the skin around my eyes (especially my right eye) started to swell and blister. This also started to happen around the time I received the CNTF implant. Anyway, now they have me on Diamox low dosage of 125 mg 3 times day. Hopefully this will be enough to keep the CME in check. Everytime I change medication I lose some acuity.

  • I take 250mg of Acetezolamide (generic diamox) 1 time per day to control the CME in my eyes. I have the usual tingling and taste funkiness, but lately I have noticed that if I drink a coke while on diamox, I get SEVERE stomach cramps. It makes me super fatigued and double over, almost like an allergic reaction. The only thing that helps to alleviate it is to lay down for about 4 hours. Of course, obviously, I need to stop all carbonated beverages while Im on it, but it's just so dang hard.

Has anyone else had this odd side effect before?
