Anyone with RP in Charlotte NC.??

Hi my name is Denielle and I was recently diagnosed with RP.I know alot about it because my sister has it, she is 39 and im 33.She was a teen when she found out she had it.A year ago her 19 year old daughter was diagnosed with RP also.Me and my other sibling's were never tested for it.But the past couple years my night vision has gotten horrible!!So a couple month's ago I went to a specialist and was told my eyes are so bad I shouldent drive at night or in the day!I have 3 children ages 5,9,13 who are going for tests in the next couple weeks.I pray they don't have it.So far they show no signs of having it.My nine year old seems to need glasses to see the board at school but she hopefully is just near sited!

I learned in Dec 07 that I had RP. I don't have any problem seeing at night but have lost a significant amount of my peripheral vision. I'm not in Charlotte but am located in Florida. I'm lucky enough to still drive and am hoping to get another 5 years from work.

Hi Mark,thanks for responding.Do you have anyone in your family with RP? I Have a brother that lives in Florida,he is in West Palm.He is 28 and says he is having a bad time seeing at night so he is going to be tested!

I don't have anyone in my family who has RP. I guess the good news is I'm the only one. I just fond out this year that I've got it ( age 44). I've noticed changes but not sure if those are just normal getting older changes or directly linked to RP.

Hi Mike,I did find a good specialist.His name is James Bedrick of Mecklenburg Eye Associates the # is 704-334-2020 I really like,him I did some research first and he is really familiar with RP. Can you still drive? I hope this helps!! Denielle

No prob.I'm glad I can help.
I don't drive at night anymore either,and I am still tring to deal with it.I do still drive during the day and I know that will come to an end soon!thank goodness I have such a wonderful husband!! I have a sister who is not much older then me with RP, she has had it since 18 and her daughter who is 20 was just diagnosed with it last year.I just found out in December I have it.So moving from New York is already a big adjustment then finding out I have RP,and all my family and close friends who would help are soo far,well anyways Im sure you understand.
Well we live in the Ballentyne area and we have made a few friends.Are you married? who knows maybe we can all meet sometime!! Denielle

Yes I am married and we are also from NY, we've lived here for about 9 months now. We live in Waxhaw, right around the corner from you. We have a two year old son. I understand its hard being away from family, its challenging.

We are from Rochester NY.I'm glad we aren't there this winter!!I can't complain this is a beautiful area with so much to do and see,my husband loves sports and fishing so it's perfect.Well, of course I like all that too! we can't wait to go to the mountains.
Let me know if you try Dr.Bedrick or if you find or hear about someone else.
I guess vitamin A treatment is all I can do for now!!Have a good one........Denielle
