- Specialist closest to me?
- Posted: 2008-01-21 12:22:56 By Bradley C
- Does anyone know if there is a list of RP specialist that is close to me? I live in Alabama and I've heard of one that is in Kentucky but I can't remember his name. I've been to the RP "specialist" here in Alabama and it seemed as if I knew more about than they did. It was kind of ridiculous in my opinion. Anyways, if someone could point me to a list I would appreciate it.

- Call the FFB and see what they currently have. They do have a "physician referral" under RESOURCES link so try that.
The doctor you are probably thinking of is Norman Radtke? He's doing research on cell transplantation. I'm not sure I would go to him unles syou are going to join his research. That's about all he does.

- Hey Bradley
My name is Corey and I live in Fairhope,Alabama. I was first diagnosed with RP at age 14 and I am now 33. I have seen specialist in Memphis and Mobile but have also been looking for a new doctor. After considering the Retina Foundation of the Southwest in Dallas, I decided to stay in state so that Blue Cross of Alabama would cover the expense. There is a doctor listed under Physician Referral on this site by the name of Dr. Kimble in Birmingham. I have an appointment with him in a month and would like to know if you have seen this guy before or know anything about Retina Specialist of Alabama?
While in Birmingham, my wife and I are seeing a genetic specialist at UAB who has expereince doing genetic testing for RP. His name is Dr. Lose. If you know anything about him as well, please let me know.
This is the first time I have posted a message on this board, but the information I have received from you and others over the last month of so has been very helpful.

- Dr. Kimble is the specialist I seen in b'ham. This is the office that I was talking about earlier. It seemed as if I knew more about what was going on than they did. Maybe you'll have better luck that I did. Let me know how it goes with the genetics doctor as well.

- What about going to Atlanta? It's closer than Memphis, isn't it? I beleive the FFB has a Research center there at Emory.

- Hello.
I live in Birmingham, AL. Bradley - are you in Birmingham?Let us know where you end up.
I have been to see Dr. Witherspoon who is in with Dr. Kimble. My complaint with that group is that you don't ncessarily see the doctor that you made the appointment with. You will see someone on that team. It is frustrating to wait hours and then not see the doctor you made the appointment with. I also felt like I knew more than they did.
The last time I went to see a specialist, I went to John Mason. He seemed to be update on RP.
