- Update on my children

- Happy New Year to Everyone!
Just thought I'd take the little bit of time I have and give an update on the kids.
Max, who was diagnosed in June, 2006 is exceling at ASDB! His mobility and orientation teacher told him one day maybe he should teach her! He is a whiz at planning routes and adapting to changes (such as a missed bus). He is also doing fantastic academically. His vision is down to what the doctor called "pinhole". He has an exam with a new opthamologist in February, so will know more then. His last audiological exam showed mixed hearing loss. He is on the school's goalball team, is going on a ski trip in February with the school and looking forward to the Junior blind Olympics in April. So a lot of traveling, which is something he truly enjoys.
Marco, diagnosed in November 2006, is enjoying 2nd grade. While he has no vision in his right eye, we have recently been told the doctor can do surgery to correct the "laziness". He will have a couple more evaluations before the decision is made. His remaining vision is now less than 10 degrees. He uses braille in school for some written work and is working hard on his tactile reading skills. He also has other accomodations to include his monocular, Zoomtext in the computer class, large print and a CCTV. He uses his guide cane regularly. His newest interest is to become an astronaut one day! Marco is scheduled for an ENT appointment to address his hearing issues in February.
Magui is 13 and was diagnosed in March of 2007. She went through quite a time not long ago with flashers and glare is becoming more of an issue. At her recent exam, the RP has spread into the mid peripheral retinal area. A new visual field test will be done soon; or so they say. The school year has been a roller coaster, with some teachers and administration working well with us within her IEP and others who have not. Then there are those middle school dramas that get thrown in. So often she asks why her friends can't just all get along like they did in elementary!!

- That's great Cynthia about your kids. I'm glad Max is enjoying life at ASDB. I sure miss my days volunterring there nearly 15 years ago. It's a beautiful campus.
I hope all goes well with the other two kids as well. Sounds like they are all adjusting well (and so is Mom!).

I was on the Hadley website the other day, nice to have a face to a name! Especially one that has helped me so much!

- Mr. Magoo! You're BLIND! You cant pick me out. LOL.
I HATED the video. I have it on DVD at home and plugged it in. But it was an enjoyable event though. The group photo is better.

- Ah, man! I can't keep any secrets anymore! I don't even have a picture on my blog. But I guess if you know who you are looking for you could probably find them sooner or later. :)
I just hope I didn't scare anybody! ha ha.

- Cynthia,
What wonderful news about your children and what wonderful children! Reading your post inspired me. You must be a great mother too, so give yourself some credit. Tell them to keep up the great attitudes and the world is theirs!
