Hello, I will try to answer your questions.
The things that you mention have been tried by a variety of folks. There is a site called http://www.mdsupport.org
where folks have discussed the sorts of things you are asking about.
First of all
Diet is important for our general health as well as our eyes.So eating Leafy green vegies, lots of colorfull vegies and fruits, whole grains and cutting down on fats, and certain carbs, Ie, potato chips, white bread, and so on is not a bad way to go, Also taking the AREDS vitamins if your doctor has recomended them.
While a Healthy diet is essential to good health and eye health it will not cure or stop a leak with wet md.
The best treatments that have come forward is Lucentis and avastin for wet md.
Which help to at least preserve vision in many people and improve it in some.
It is not a cure.
Stem Cells are being developed by our scientist as treatments of the future and I am sure this site has some information listed on them their use and the research being done.
Micro stimulation, it is my understanding from folks who have tried this, that it did not work especially in cases of wet md.
Early treatment was Argonne Laser
then they went to PDT and Visudine
then onto Macugen
and now we have Lucentis and Avastin.
I hope this helps to answer your questions.

- Dear Itzko,
My mother developed wet AMD in 2001. At that time we did not have any treatment in Mongolia and she lost central vision in her left eye. From 3 years ago she developed wet AMD in her right eye and we are trying hard to keep her vision. We had 8 shots of Avastin in 3 years. Last time we performed laser treatment which provided 8 months without new leaks. However after 8 months new leaks appeared, and also her vision decreased by 1 point.
For medicine, it is advised to limit use of blood thinning medicaments such as aspirin, as they may increase leaks. Studies are being held now in the States.
Now I have a question. How much do Avastin shots cost in the US? In Mongolia it is US450-600 per shot, expensive.
Thank you and best wishes.

- I hate to hear the cost is so high but the avastin shot's I have been getting my Doctor gives me a sheet to sign every time that states even if insurance doesn't cover it the total cost is roughly $84 US dollars. Thankfully, so far, insurance has covered it. Sorry they cost so much.

- Microcurrent stimulation therapy has been helpful in some cases especially in those patints who are early in the disease. I know several people who are using it now. Call me at 1-936 661-8388

- microcurrent therapy is used mainly for the dry type of ARMD but it can also be used in conjuntion with avastin injections because it helps the blood already present to absorb whereas avastin prevents the vessels from bleeding. call 1-936-661-8388 for more information.
