Research centers do research on all the retinal degenerations and thus perform a service for all patients.
The Foundation Fighting Blindness Research Center Program was designed as a mechanism to foster the collaborative efforts of multiple clinical and/or basic scientists whose research focuses on a particular critical need for the retinal degenerative disease community. The investigators comprising a Research Center may be located at a single institution (a traditional Center) or they may be located at multiple sites (a Center Without-Walls). Currently, there are 18 FFB-funded Research Centers. Research Centers typically contain all of the infrastructure required to conduct therapeutic testing through clinical trials and thus, are a vital part of the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ Mission.
