We need cures, not cuts! (image of a lab worker)

Save Research Week > Call Your Representatives

Pick Up the Phone!

Below is suggested messaging to use when calling the offices of your elected officials about the importance of protecting medical research. You can find phone numbers for your senators by searching here by state, and for your U.S. representative by searching here by zip code.

What to Say

Hello, thank you for taking the call.

I am a constituent of [representative’s name].

I would like to ask a question and receive a written response, please.

I am very concerned that in its efforts to reduce the deficit, Congress will pass spending cuts or make policy changes without regard to their impact on biomedical research, even though research is a major driver of job-producing innovation in this country and our only hope for combating disabling diseases, such as [retinal disease], which affects [me/a loved one].

I'm a supporter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, the largest private funder of retinal research that is making great strides, but federal support is also important to succeed in eradicating blindness.

I would like to know whether [the Senator/Congressman/Congresswoman] will fight against sequestration and other budget cuts that arbitrarily reduce funding or incentives for biomedical research.

If the response could be e-mailed I would appreciate it. My email address is X.

Thank you for your service to constituents like me. I truly appreciate it.
