Foundation Joins Campaign to Save Medical Research: We Need Cures, Not Cuts!

The Foundation Fighting Blindness is joining forces with Research!America, an alliance dedicated to making medical health and research a higher national priority, along with more than 50 other like-minded organizations, to kick off its Save Research campaign with an intensified week of advocacy, November 12-16, 2012.

This campaign calls for cures, not cuts – a response to the U.S. Congress’ current plan to reduce the federal deficit by making across-the-board budget cuts that would dramatically reduce funding for medical research and public health. If no further legislative action is taken, the cuts could seriously impact blindness research, and the nation will lose valuable time in fighting retinal and other diseases in which patients depend on medical advancements.

Deficit reduction is important, but arbitrary budget cuts that stifle medical progress are wrong. So, with Congress returning for a lame-duck session, now is the time to urge its members to protect funding that will help combat disease and spur private sector innovation. We Need Cures, Not Cuts!
