Steven L. Bramer, Ph.D.
Chief Drug Development Officer Foundation Fighting Blindness National NeuroVision Research Institute Stephen Bramer, Ph.D., joined the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB)/National Neurovision Research Institute (NNRI) as the Chief Drug Development Officer in July 2009, and in this position he is responsible for the leadership of translational research and drug discovery efforts. He manages day-to-day operations of the Drug Development Department, works with various academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies to seek potential therapies for retinal degenerative diseases, provides overall leadership to NNRI’s pre-clinical testing facilities, and works with the Chief Research Officer to develop infrastructure and implement clinical trials through the National Eye Evaluation Research (NEER) network. Prior to joining FFB/NNRI, Dr. Bramer was employed as Vice President of Clinical Operations at Angiotech Pharmaceuticals. In this position, he was responsible for clinical development and operations including all functional areas supporting products in clinical development. Before joining Angiotech, Dr. Bramer was with the Otsuka Maryland Research Institute for about 11 years where he served as a Senior Director overseeing departments involved in translational medicine and Project Leader in the ophthalmology/dermatology division. He has been successful in all stages of clinical development for drugs, biologicals, combination products, and devices on both the foreign and domestic market. His experience covers a broad range of therapeutic areas and he has dealt extensively with regulatory agencies. Dr. Bramer received his B.S. in Animal Science from Cornell University, M.S. in Pathology from The Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics also from The Ohio State University. He continues to stay affiliated with the academic community as an Associate Adjunct Professor at The Ohio State University. He has presented at major scientific meetings and is well published. His solid foundation in science, medicine, and regulations as well as his leadership and management skills are the foundation of his success. His versatility, experience, and knowledge have led to optimization of time, money, and resources in product development. Areas of excellence encompass organizational development, product development (drugs, biological combination products, and devices), translational medicine, clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug metabolism, experimental design and statistics, clinical operations, and organizational development. |
