Virgil’s Vision

The Shane Family

Featured volunteer Dave Shane, his wife Coleen and the entire Shane family have been involved with the Fort Wayne VisionWalk since its inception in 2007. Dave’s team, Virgil’s Vision, is named after Dave’s late father, Virgil Shane. Virgil participated in the first Fort Wayne VisionWalk and was also affected with a retinal degenerative eye disease. Virgil passed away on January 30, 2008.

Dave, who is affected with retinitis pigmentosa, and his family continue to walk in honor of his father. Dave’s team of family and friends, including walk sponsors Ruoff Mortgage and his sister-in-law, Andrea Shane, of Al-Jan International, have raised over $10,000 to fund sight-saving research. As promising treatments move into critical human studies, the need for research funding is greater than ever before.

With Dave’s determination and continued support, we will continue to raise the funds that will lead to treatments and cures for retinal degenerative diseases!
