Chapter President’s message,
Wow ! The 2013 San Diego “Dining in the Dark” dinner gala on May 22nd broke new ground in number of attendees to new numbers in several categories --- the most attendees and the most donations for the San Diego Chapter! Honorees Jill and Evan Stone filled the Hyatt Regency La Jolla with friends, family and Chapter Members to overflowing.
By the time Dr. William R. Brody, President & CEO of the Salk Institute spoke about the Foundation’s remarkable history and achievements and the Foundation’s CEO Bill Schmidt, from the Columbia, MD, headquarters outlined the latest progress in the fight to reverse blindness, the attendees were more than ready to bid on the Live Auction incredible packages as if to prove to the Honorees that they wanted to demonstrate their support for putting to an end the fight against retinal disorders of every type.
Jill and Evan reformed the San Diego Chapter in 1993, with just a handful of friends and a Foundation that had no idea when their work would begin to have meaningful treatments and strategies for reversal of blindness. The Stones have a daughter and son who are affected with Usher’s Syndrome. Here in 2013 this dream is coming true and the friends and family. “Dining in the Dark” again proves to our supporters its winning ways on behalf of all in Southern California. It was both an inspiring and exciting time when the lights go out for the diners and the participants realize just what it is to be blind when the lights come on, only for those with vision.
We are already speaking about next year’s event….Come join with us in the planning !
Jody Tadder, Pres. San Diego Chapter, The Foundation Fighting Blindness
