Celebrating Excellence
Founding Kansas City Chapter President Terry Super was presented with the Foundation’s Member Excellence Volunteer of the Year Award for the Midwest Region at the VISIONS 2012 national conference in Minneapolis in June. The honor recognizes his excellent service in support of the Foundation’s mission in 2011. Terry has been instrumental in supporting the local visually impaired community, working tirelessly to raise awareness and drive sight-saving research toward treatments and cures. He’s also committed to mentoring new chapter leaders and has been a strong supporter of the annual Kansas City 5K VisionWalk. Congratulations Terry!

The Greater Kansas City Chapter
The Kansas City FFB Chapter meets quarterly to gather people concerned with retinal degenerative diseases and to share the latest research news and other information vital to managing life with vision loss. Local chapters, like Kansas City’s, activate FFB’s urgent mission in the local communities giving participants a powerful role in advancing the research that will end inherited retinal degenerative disease. Most recently the Kansas City chapter members heard took a tour of the research facilities at the Vision Research Center, led by Dr. Peter Koulen. Earlier this year, Tim Schoen, Ph.D., FFB’s director of preclinical research, spoke to our Chapter about various potential therapies that look promising and are nearing human clinical trials. At another Chapter meeting, members toured Alphapointe Association for the Blind and learned more about the services available through this great organization. We are excited to partner with Alphapointe on these activities, and they also join FFB at our annual VisionWalk.
The Kansas City Chapter Leadership is always looking for additional volunteers to help plan their chapter meetings and other events, and to help reach out to people in the Kansas City area that can benefit from FFB’s information. Decide which skills you would like to bring to the group and make a difference in your community! Any amount of time you can afford would be appreciated, even if you can help make phone calls from your home!
