Founding Chapter President Suzi Ford was presented with the Foundation’s Member Excellence Volunteer of the Year Award for the Florida Region at the VISIONS 2012 national conference in Minneapolis in June. The honor recognizes her excellent service in support of the Foundation’s mission in 2011. Suzi has greatly contributed to the fight against blindness since first becoming involved with the organization in 2007. Her “Cure Crusaders” VisionWalk team is consistently a top fundraiser, raising more than $12,000 earlier this year. The chapter has seen impressive growth under her leadership, and Suzi strives to work with local retinal specialists to provide resources and hope for patients who are newly diagnosed with retinal diseases. The Jacksonville Chapter hosts monthly meetings for those affected by retinal degenerative diseases. These meetings are typically held on the third Saturday. Meetings generally include a speaker on topics related to resources available, services in the area, local activities and various other concerns of visually impaired individuals.
Three times a year the Chapter invites retinal specialists and researchers to present a topic on the latest research advancements for retinal degenerative diseases.
For convenience, the Chapter leadership often hosts conference calls for leadership and business meetings. When a staff member is present at a general meeting, sometimes the Chapter will hold a leadership meeting on the same date. All are welcome to be a part of the planning for future meetings and events. The Chapter welcomes input and any information you wish to share, such as places, times, or dates to hold a meeting, topics of interest, or questions and concerns.
Chapter meetings are an excellent way to connect with others who are personally affected or have a family member or friend challenged with vision loss.
